Instant Quarterback Competition in KC?

The Kansas City Chiefs signed Brady Quinn late on Saturday March 17, 2012.  Could this mean a competition will play out this off season between Quinn and incumbent starter Matt Cassel?

Cassel, remember, is coming off of an injury to his throwing hand and has been less than stellar over his three seasons with the Chiefs.  Head coach Romeo Crennel has suggested this offseason that a competition would happen when “…we get another quarterback on the team…”

Why this is a possibility for Quinn is that Crennel was his original coach with the Cleveland Browns and drafted him out of college.  Quinn wanted to sign with a team that would give him the chance at a starting job, and Crennel seems to have a soft spot for him.

Quinn by all indications has improved since his stint with the Browns.  He so far has not lived up to expectations but he was in line for the starting job with the Denver Broncos until he fell victim to Tebow-mania (Tim Tebow).

Brady Quinn was reportedly leapfrogged on the Broncos depth chart for the starting quarterback job by Tim Tebow last season.

It should also be noted that his time with the Browns wasn’t exactly the most optimal of conditions.  The team was not very good to put it lightly and it seemed that they had issues at every spot on the offense.

Can Crennel develop his talents in a more stable environment?  Will we see a new quarterback under center next season?
